Automatic Sump Pump, Garden Sump Pumps and Submersible Sump Pumps

If you are here you're looking for a hydromatic sump pump, automatic sump pump, garden sump pump, submersible sump pump or some other type of sump pump. This site will provide you with information about all of these types of pumps and more, including product information, reviews and very clear advice.

TYPES OF PUMPS

There are many types of hydromatic sump pumps. Here is a small sample of pumps that you might be trying to find:
  • Hydromatic SW50M1 Classic Series 115 Volt Manual 1/2 HP
  • Hydromatic Submersible Sump Pump .30 HP 48 GPM
  • Hydromatic VS33A1 Classic Series 115 Volt Automatic 1/3 HP
  • SD50A1 Hydromatic Submersible Sump pump, 65 GPM
  • Hydromatic Submersible Sump/Effluent Pump .50 HP
  • D-A1 Hydromatic Sump Pump
  • V-A1 Hydromatic Sump Pump
Many hydromatic sump pumps are made of cast iron and they are built to last, even when the conditions are rough. They are extremely high quality, in general, and can provide you with excellent flow ("gallons per minute" or GPM) for a fair price.

CORDS AND POWER

In general, I highly recommend that you look for pumping products with long cords. Look for 15-20 feet of cord so that you can easily reach the outlets for power no matter what the conditions. They usually come in these size: 5 feet, 10 feet, 15 feet, 20 feet and 25 feet.

Also, when you purchase a garden sump pump or submersible sump pump, for example, consider getting an industrial stength extension cord that can withstand being in water. In fact, this is essential but it's often neglected when buying pumps.
(Although, in general, you should definitely not use an extension cord unless it's extremely safe.)

When shopping for a hydromatic pump, such as a Wayne sump pump, Zoeller sump pump or Simer sump pump, keep in mind that you are looking for as high GPM or gallons per minute, as possible for your need. Also, look at the RPMs and full load amps (e.g., "12 full load amps") for your power needs. More details on these factors are covered below.

SEALS, ENGINE OIL AND AUTOMATIC RESETS

Here are still other factors to consider to help you make a smart buying decision. Look for features of quality such as carbon and ceramic mechanical seals. Try to get hydromatic pumps with an oil filled motor with automatic reset thermal overload. It might also make sense to get a sump pump with single-row ball-bearing construction. That's often a sign of real qualtiy. And, consider getting a pump with a piggyback plug which allows for easy replacement and easy maintenance.

By the way, if you're looking for sump pumps you will probably also be interested in several related types of products such as effluent pumps, sewage ejector pumps, float switches, packaged pump systems, non-clog pumps and more.

SUBMERISBLE VERSUS PEDESTAL

I'll end with more buying tips. You'll need to decide between a submersible pump or pedestal. Will it be hidden or in sight? Submersible pumps are great because they cause less noise and they are safer for children. Pedestal pumps, on the other hand, tend to last longer (20-30 years) and they are less expensive.

SWITCHES

Think about the many different types of switches too. There are float switches, diaphrams and mercury switches. Do not depend on manual control. You need a switch -- any switch -- for your sump pump. It's essential.

HORSEPOWER (HP)

The power or "strength" of a hydromatic submersible or hydromatic pedestal sump pump will increase as you pay more money. Quality increases but also the ability to move water. Most sump pumps will range in horsepower (HP) from 1/6 HP to 1/2 HP, although you can go higher in some cases.

GPM AND GPH

However, what matters more is the flow you can get. What you care about is "GPM" or gallons per minute which I discussed above. Alternatively, you'll see "GPH" or gallons per hour. This is essential to your decision. Likewise, keep in mind that some situations are tough for a sump pump, such as moving dirt, leaves, twigs and even small rocks.

HIGH QUALITY MATERIALS

And finally, keep in mind that you need quality for long term performance. You need to look at materials that will last a long time such as stainless steel, cast bronze, coated cast iron but not cheap plastic or exposed sheet metal. Epozy coated metals are effective as well. Polypropylene and similar types of plastics are going to be found in every pump.

Now you are ready to purchase your
hydromatic sump  pump. Take action now while these concepts are fresh in your mind. It's the best "water damage insurance" you can get!
